Hey there. How ‘ya doin’?
Things have been rough lately… with the brother gone, ze husband off to a six-week training in Montreal and me having breakouts because of hormonal imbalance (so says the skin consultant person). (Yes, I now have a skin consultant person but that’s a story for another day).
Well anyway, I’ve been planning a bunch of stuff to do to keep my mind off sad things. I’ll write about them in a day or so. Or whenever. And I’ve bought a bunch of Pugad Baboy volumes to keep me company until ze husband is back. Heh.
In the mean time, a big hug to all my friends who have been super supportive in my times of need. You guys are awesome.
I have been an active member of the Postcrossing community for some time now. I love getting postcards from all over the world and the feeling I get whenever somebody says that they got (and liked) the postcard that I sent (especially whenever they tell me that I have a very nice handwriting, hrhrhr). But of all the cards that I receive, the best ones are still those that were sent by my friends (aka people who know me IRL). Because I am in a “show and tell” kind of a mood, here are the said favorites:
From Manila, Philippines
From Berlin, Germany
From Paris, France
From Normandie, France
Yay for postcards!:)
Day 4: Check!
***
I noticed that I never did post which studio I was going to in my previous entries. For everybody’s info, I go to Bikram Yoga City Hall. No nonsense, no gimmicky name. Just Bikram Yoga and where they are located.
***
Anyway, fourth day. Charlie was the instructor for the class. I find myself being inspired by Charlie because he isn’t as young as the previous instructors. It really goes to show that it doesn’t matter what age you are to do Bikram Yoga. He has a kindly voice and he gave tips that helped me with some poses. I like him.
***
The class wasn’t as crowded as the other days, probably because it was a Friday night.
***
I realized that as I attend more classes, they get easier and harder at the same time. Easier because my body is used to the heat and I’m familiar with the poses. Harder because now, the goal is to not only do the poses properly and hold them for as long as the instructor says but to do better than how I did the day before. Does that make sense?
***
I always get a sense of accomplishment whenever I finish a class. And I liked what Charlie said about how great it was for him to teach a class who’s willing to work hard to build up their strength.
Day 3 of Bikram Yoga: Check.
It seems like the room is getting hotter by the day but I know they haven’t changed the temperature. Maybe it’s still my body adjusting to everything that I’ve subjected it to the past couple of days.
By now I’ve had three different instructors: Marcus, Christina and Teri. They all have different styles to my thinking but they’re all the same in pushing you to the limits of what your body can handle.
Since I’m used to the heat and breathing already, last night I focused on doing the poses properly and trying to hold them longer.
My body isn’t as sore as the days before which is good. Yay, body!
As for my current goal, I told Teri after class that I can’t touch my toes and asked her if there are stretching exercises that I can do to be able to do it. She says, “Start where you’re at. And attend classes.”
Right.
On me doing yoga:
Husband: Yoga Bear!
Me: HAHA. Not funny.![]()
On me doing yoga for the second day:
J: wooooot! Who are you and what have you done to Mapet?!?
![]()
Ch: after ur body gets used to it, u’ll need to continue going weekly to maintain it
Me: yeah, i guess.
Me: that’s good right?
Ch: yep! v good
Ch: so healthy u’ve become
Ch: almost like a different person … are you mapet ?![]()
On me bringing fruits for snacks:
J: seriously
J: who are you?
J: what have you done with mapet?
Day 2 of Bikram Yoga went well. I was feeling sore the whole day from last night’s class so I was worried if I can do the poses today. But I really wanted to make most of the one week unlimited package so I still went.
Preparation involved guzzling a lot of water during the day and going to the loo because of it. (Ch says that’s also an exercise) Haha.
My friend J said that the second day is tougher than the first and the third tougher than the second. The fourth day might be better. I thought the same. Turns out it’s different for Bikram Yoga.
I didn’t get dizzy this time around and was able to do more standing poses than yesterday. Yay. But I still have a lot of work to do though.
Next goal: To be able to touch my toes without my knees bending.
I wonder how long that would take me.
This day shouldn’t end without me telling everybody that I just completed my very first Bikram Yoga class! Yay!
It is difficult, hardcore and not for sissies.
I got dizzy after the first couple of standing poses, so I had to sit down and rest for a bit. Marcus, the instructor was very nice and at the same time, demanding. But it’s quite alright. It’s not so much as the temperature but the poses as well. I was conscious at the beginning but as most of the websites that I visited said, you’ll be too busy with the poses (and breathing) that you hardly notice anybody else.
The studio is quite great. The rates are a bit steep but they provide everything (mats, towels, waters, shower area, shower stuff, hair dryer, lol) so all you need to do is show up, and attend the class. The front desk people are accommodating and helpful, it’s hard not to like them.
So yeah. I’m thinking of going again tomorrow (and the next couple of days) to make most out of the beginner’s package that I got. They said that it gets easier the following classes.
I hope they’re right. And I hope I’m not too sore when I wake up. Heh.
Watched the Rocky Horror Show last Friday night with Ch and N. Had an awesome time even if we were seated in what N calls as the the “nosebleed seats”.
I had a lot of fun. Fans were dressed up! One guy near our seat was even wearing the infamous gold trunks. I was really surprised that there were a lot of guys who dressed up as a “sweet transvestite”, complete with fishnets and feather boas.
If ever you have the chance to watch Rocky Horror, I recommend getting the most expensive seats you can afford. Totally worth it.
